The Best Gift Is An Amazing Experience
21 May 2012 | By admin in general | No Comments YetIt is a widely known fact that people, in general, in our country, have plenty of stuff. Though unemployment is high and there are hungry children in our world, when it comes to knickknacks and plastic toys the majority of families have more than enough. All these collected items of perceived worth tend to serve as a ball and chain rather than a source of joy and pleasure. A few years ago, I realized I didn’t want to be giving gifts that people just stuck on their shelf anymore. I decided to start using gift ideas that would truly improve the recipient’s life rather than add more burden to it.
The simplest way to go beyond possessions when it comes to gift giving is to present activities and events instead. Some of the very best gifts I have received in my life have been concert tickets, massage certificates and beach villa rentals. These gifts not only shared my friends’ love and affection but also provided me with an amazing experience as I listened to the performers, relaxed on the massage table or enjoyed a weekend on the coast.
Anything you can get a gift certificate for makes a good experience based gift. Rather than giving things that can be set on a shelf or displayed on the wall, a gift of an experience avoids the burden of more possessions. Plus, your friend and loved one is more likely to remember a really great day longer than they will a pair of pretty salt shakers or comfy sweater.
A massage of any kind makes a great gift because it is guaranteed to give your friend relaxation and enjoyment. There are lots of types of massages to choose from, too, and your town surely has more than one masseuse. If you know what you friend likes, spring for a one hour session with that type of masseuse. If you don’t, choose your favorite.
In fact, gift certificates for spas are always appreciated. You want to give your friend what they need most right? You want them to be happy and healthy? Spas are constructed around these goals.
Gift cards are becoming increasingly popular but they continue to lack a personal nature. They are great for recipients who you don’t know very well because they give the recipient complete freedom. However, they lack the personal touch of other gifts. Gift certificates strike the perfect medium as they give the recipient some flexibility but still are directly connected to your specific desire for them.
Think outside of the “material possession” box to share your affection in a more genuine and powerful way. Consider buying a friend fresh flowers on their birthday rather than picking out a piece of clothing you think they will probably like but may or may not need.
There are lots of other experience based gift ideas that you can think up just by considering what you, or your recipient, would want most of all. To give something that will be remembered and truly make your friend’s life better, offer an experience rather than giving a material possession.
